Elvin E Dillon known as Babe, age 87, of Baldwin City Kansas, died July 4 2011. He served as 1st Lieutenant in WWII earning the American Theater Ribbon WW II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He co owned Franklin County Sale Barn and milk hauling business, and was active in the American Legion and Elks. Graveside services July 8 at Washington Creek Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 228. Memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas.

He served in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom earned the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit and is survived by his wife Kelly, son Nathan and daughter Amy, plus his mother and siblings. Philip G. Harrison 68 of Naples Florida died Wednesday June 29 in Scottsdale Arizona. He was born June 11 1943 in Kansas City Missouri and educated at Culver Military Academy Kansas University and Indiana University. He worked as a teacher at Northwood Institute and held leadership roles at Indiana University Yankton College and Gill Real Estate. He returned to Lawrence in 1972 becoming vice president of Gill Real Estate until 1995. Memorials to Plymouth Congregational Church or the Culver Educational Foundation. Phil Harrison remembered for community spirit and aviation ties

Friends and colleagues remember Phil Harrison 68 as a Lawrence real estate and insurance executive who loved the community, flying, and Kansas Public Radio. He died June 29 in Scottsdale, Arizona after a long illness. Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Plymouth. Harrison grew up in Lawrence, studied at Culver Military Academy and KU, and returned in 1972 to work with his father at Gill Real. He was praised as honest, reputable, and supportive of the city, with leadership in the Cessna Cardinal Club and a lifelong passion for flying. He and his wife Beth were generous supporters of Kansas Public Radio, including a 2008 Steinway piano gift and on-air fundraisers. He is remembered as an infectious personality who loved people and who will be missed.

Last defendant in Exchange robbery sentenced

A Douglas County judge sentenced 20-year-old Lawrence man Douglas Bittinger to 38 months in prison after he pleaded no contest to two aggravated battery charges tied to a September robbery at The Exchange in Lawrence.
