A wartime feature likens a farmer boy driving a tractor to a tank in a jungle of corn. He fights weeds that steal bushels to feed cattle and hogs, reflecting how farmers and ranchers contribute to the war by supplying food for a hungry world. Meat packing plants, including Swift & Company, run at full capacity to handle rising livestock outputs. Federally Inspected slaughter records heighten the wartime supply narrative.
