Cleanup Commences as North Lawrence Rebuilds
Water receded in North Lawrence allowing cleanup to begin after a week of flooding. Floodgate openings reduced water by over two feet in most areas while the north side remained partly flooded along the highway. The Still River stood at 16.1 feet and continued to fall as rainfall totaled 1.04 inches in the city. Local businesses, including Hayden Motor Co and Gok Food Market, moved gear back indoors and began hosing out facilities, mud and rust were being scraped from machinery at Nore Oil Co, and sand around manholes was removed to restore drainage. Additional tanks at Atomic Gas and Oil were secured to avoid leaks.
