Angels Nudge Royals in 4-3 Pitchers’ Duel

Rudy May pitched eight strong innings for the California Angels as they beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3. May learned of his mother in law’s death before his start and faced personal tragedy with his grandmother’s funeral in Oakland and a wife recently out of the hospital. Lloyd Allen earned the win with Billy Cowan delivering a clutch pinch hit in the ninth after Alomar’s Bunt and aggressive base running helped set the rally. Cowan improved his season batting average to .313.
