No bid contract eyed for Afghan power project draw scrutiny
Washington based USAID awarded a 266 million no bid contract to Black & Veatch for southern Afghanistan power upgrades in Kandahar and Helmand. The agency had pledged to seek bids in 2010 but cited urgent timelines. Symbion Power criticized the move, saying competition was warranted. The commission on wartime contracting will review the deal as Black & Veatch plans upgrades to Kandahar city lines substations and a turbine at Kajaki Dam.
