Mental health funding cuts could boost hospital visits in Kansas
Area hospital leaders warn that reduced state aid to community mental health centers will raise admissions and emergency room use. Lawrence Memorial Hospital reports 2010 psych evaluations for 1 031 patients, with 391 transferrals to inpatient care and Stormont-Vail noting occasional room waits amid a decade of rising demand. If crisis services shrink, patients lose options and rely more on hospitals.
