Roosevelt in Money Limits Powers and Budget Debate
The Senate banking committee fast tracked the administration money bill with key changes. It limits Roosevelt’s devaluation powers to two years, allows a five member board to govern the stabilization fund, and preserves Fed gold title with profits taxed via a franchise on the system. Debate surfaced as Senators Fess and Robinson clashed, and Treasury amendments authorize up to 2.5 billion in additional treasury notes to ease borrowing rules.
