Rural Water District Names Five Man Group
Five persons were elected Wednesday evening to lead a rural water district in Willow Springs Township. Wheat storage shows a drop on Kansas farms in January
Kansas farm wheat stocks on January 1 totaled 31 532 000 bushels a 12 percent drop from a year earlier and 40 percent below the 1958 62 average. Sorghum and corn stocks were near or below year ago levels while barley and rye reached multi year lows. Milk and egg output trends showed December gains and declines respectively. Lawrence elevators report stronger wheat sales and reduced storage statewide up to 15 percent lower than a year ago.

A mother Anette Gilkey and her four children Sabrina 8 pon Jr Gregory 3 and Mark 2 were among 240 wives and children of Canal Zone military families flown from Charleston S C to be taken to their homes in Reno and Kansas City. Gilkey said they hid during rioting in Panama City and crossed into the Canal Zone on auto floor boards. Gilkey's husband Staff Sgt Boyd Gilkey is stationed in the Canal Zone and will serve 21 more months. Martin Schmidt of Reno said his daughter and four grandchildren will reach Kansas City Friday morning from South Carolina by train.

Mrs Sophia Snowden about 95 died Wednesday at her home 1933 Tenn St after an extended illness. She moved to Lawrence from Missouri in 1900 and was the widow of George Snowden. An ordained A M E evangelist she served in St Luke A M E Church in many roles. Survivors include Rev Rasco C Anderson of Brooklyn NY and several cousins including Otis Snowden. Funeral arrangements are pending Bowser Lee Mortuary.

Central Student Hurt In Traffic Accident
Glenda C Daniels aged 13 of 531 Lyon Street sustained bruises to her right leg and side when struck by a car at 14th and Mass Street about 8 30 this morning. She was taken to her own doctor for treatment. The driver was Benjamin H Doctor 75 of 1308 West 20th Street. Daniels began crossing from the northeast corner and said she believed the car would stop after tripping the traffic light.

City Plans February Talk On APCO Station Property
