Open House Celebrates Haskell Printing Plant History
Haskell Institute plans its first annual open house during International Printing Week. Visitors from Lawrence area are invited to tour the Haskell Printing Plant, the largest of three Bureau of Indian Affairs schools. Instructors include Bill Elzea James McGahey and James Fischer with assistants. Printing has been taught since 1893. About 40 students train in four vocations and produce 20 book titles plus millions of forms yearly. The Indian Leader and Haskell news are printed on site. Graduates now work across the U.S. from Michigan to California and Texas to South Dakota.

A police car en route to a report of an accident was struck before arrival. Patrolman Richard Parker, 33, and passenger Henry Smith, 25, were involved in the collision at 19th and Maine with Kenneth DeWeese, 17. Parker's knee was injured. damage totaled 300 dollars. A separate panel truck and car collision at 17th and Ill caused 600 dollars in damage with no injuries. Bodies recovered in the Cumberland jet crash search
