The Saturday Column argues Kansas lawmakers should be invited as a body to Lawrence and KU to view campus facilities and local industry. It questions whether such visits would foster better relations and potentially influence future state funding and highway projects.
The Kansas Legislature adjourned around noon but many Democratic lawmakers stayed in Topeka for Washington Day activities. Gov. Docking, James DeCoursey, urban affairs assistant, and Vince Bogard, legislative liaison assistant, are to speak. A Washington Day banquet at Municipal Auditorium will feature Docking addressing issues before the Legislature at a $25 plate.
Dr Paul Dudley White urges American youth to rebel against overfed inactive elders as a national disgrace for men dying at 68 and outliving women by seven years. He calls for heart health awareness and action nationwide.
U S ambassador to the United Nations Arthur J Goldberg opened a five nation Asian tour in Tokyo saying ending the Vietnam war will be very difficult. He did not bring a peace package and met Foreign Minister Takeo Miki to discuss de escalation and regional concerns. He will speak with officials in South Korea Vietnam the Philippines and Nationalist China before reporting to President Johnson.
Lawrence police logged two thefts on Friday. Larry Sims of 627 West 25th Street reported the theft of a stereo record player worth 200 dollars from his car, and Kenneth Coffee of 745 North 3rd Street reported Friday night the theft of tools worth 22.50 from his garage, occurring after February 17 with forced entry.
In Lawrence a display of eighty Lord's Supper prints opens in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church at 9th and St. The exhibit runs to March 10 for public viewing. The Interstate Commerce Commission approved discontinuing trains 39 and 40 between Kansas City and Tucumcari, stops included, citing financial losses. Rock Island also operates trains 3 and 4, the Golden State, which pass through without stopping. The railroad notes 1965 and 1966 losses and a 1961–64 passenger drop. Los Angeles 54 year old Virginia W Evans, a switchboard operator, was jailed for eight days and fined 570 dollars after police found 59 overparking citations. Judge Loren Miller ordered the sentence to run with her vacation.
Two local men suffered fractures Friday evening when their legs were crushed between two cars while attempting to aid a stalled vehicle on U.S.24 near the Goodyear plant in Topeka. Raymond Hunt of Lawrence and Howard Jones of Linwood were hospitalized at Stormont-Vail with injuries. deputy Joe Hays described the incident involving Gerald Robinson of Topeka and Burt Sanders of Topeka.
Dr. Raymond Schwegler reports all clear after 150 residents of McCollum Hall fall ill from intestinal cramps and diarrhea following dinner. 76 coeds and 74 men were treated. two were admitted to Watkins Memorial Hospital, both expected to leave today as health officials deem the issue under control.
Continental Construction Co of Lawrence reports 68 units at Meadowbrook apartment addition ready for occupancy in April. The 60 acre site, one block west of Iowa Street and north of 15th Street, will expand to 200 total units in the first year with townhouses, garden apartments, and duplexes. Underground utilities, extensive landscaping, and a large community center with pool and tennis court are planned.
Clifford Smith of 901 E. 23rd St told police Friday night he was assaulted by two unknown Black men as he walked through Veterans Park around 7 30 p m. They struck him in the face knocked him down and kicked him in the side, officers said.

Four 19 year old youths from Pittsburg and Lawrence area plead guilty in District Court to third degree burglary and grand larceny. Charles W Betz Jr Daniel E Menzies were placed on three years probation. Sentencing for James E Floro and Bob J Ward is set for March 3.
In Syracuse a thief broke into Terry Goodman s car and took a small jewelry box. The 21 year old reported the loss to police saying the box contained valuables including his dentures.
