Vernon Castle Killed From Fall Near Benbrook Field
Fort Worth Feb 15 Captain Vernon Castle of the Royal Flying Corps, famed dancer, was killed when his airplane collided while avoiding a cadet near Benbrook field. Castle, who had 150 flights over German lines, died of brain concussion after the craft failed to right itself. The American cadet, R Peters, was uninjured except for a black eye.

John F. L. Callahan, editor of the Pittsburg Kansan since 1906, died last night after a fall on a slippery sidewalk a month earlier and a later coughing spell. He was sixty three and had worked on many papers including the New York World and the New York Times. He came to Pittsburg as publisher of the Kansan in 1906.

The Ida M. Putnam vs C. E. Putnam divorce suit rose to the state supreme court after the Douglas County District Court denied a new trial. The division of property, settled December 20, 1917, awarded Mrs. Putnam Franklin County property and installments totaling 2,500 with interest provisions. J M Boyd Lawrence police chief says care of George Ellis, a smallpox patient from Wichita, was provided by the city not Santa Fe. The man stayed in a Santa Fe upstairs room, then moved to a box car with proper facilities after a conference. He received meals via officer Logan. Santa Fe initially resisted housing him, but later took responsibility for quarantine arrangements to prevent spread. The city is urged to fund proper quarantine space and emphasize public health over cost.
