More than 100 Kansas city clerks and municipal finance officers will attend the 26th annual professional school at Kansas University Wednesday through Friday. The conference, run by the KU Institute of Public Affairs and Division of Continuing Education, will explore problems facing cities in the next two decades. A Wichita orthodontist, Dr Richard Rogers, 45, was killed when his car jumped a curb and rolled over on the east side Friday afternoon. The crash also struck a van, but no other injuries were reported.

Miller in Fair Condition After Freight Train Collision
Harry R. Miller 62 of North Lawrence remains in fairly good condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital with head injuries and cuts after his pickup struck a Union Pacific freight train at a crossing south of Grant Elementary School. The collision occurred Friday afternoon as Miller’s southbound truck hit the eastbound engine traveling about 35 mph. the crossing lacks lights. The train engine sustained about $100 in damage. A second westbound freight train was briefly delayed during wreckage removal.
