Douglas County three member commission will visit El Dorado Friday to study operation of the county home there. They seek the most efficient method and lowest cost, aiming for a new county home ready by late spring or early summer. Leasing the home to improve revenue from the federal government is being considered.
James O Duncan 78 a retired farmer died this morning at his home on Route 2. Funeral services will be at 3 30 p m Saturday at the Rumsey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park. Surviving are his widow Maude Duncan a son Harold J Duncan two daughters Lola Duncan and Ruth Schoepflin two sisters Dora May Fionia Taylor two brothers Charles Duncan Elmer Duncan five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mrs Jennie Holder 61 of 1140 Pa St died this morning at Douglas County Convalescent Home Funeral and burial at Coffeyville Rumsey Funeral Home in charge Survived by four daughters Roberta Morse Edith Brakhage Lola Fox Mary Jane Titus and four sons George William Donald Clay Holder a sister Birdie Surface four brothers and 14 grandchildren
Edwin Forrest Moody 87 died this morning at his home 909 Mo St be jin Onega. Rumsey Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. Survived by daughters Deloris Clark and Mae Flynn both of Pomona California. sons Harry Moody and Edwin Lewis Moody. sister Maude Cadwalder. brothers Nathan Moody and Sarge Moody. seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Mrs Della Randall Cleland 71 lifelong Vinland resident died this morning at Samaritan Lodge She was born December 14 1889 in Vinland She attended Lawrence Business College and was active in farm and cattle associations with her husband Fred W Cleland who died March 10 1959 Funeral services are set for 2 p m Monday at Rumsey Funeral Home Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery Surviving are a son Miles Cleland a sister Mrs P F W Pratt a brother Walker Randall and two grandchildren
A 1956 model automobile reported stolen Tuesday in Topeka was found Wednesday near Big Springs. The car was not in running order and missing parts include wheels back axle differential spare tire hood battery carburator radio glove box door and floor mats. Sheriff Fred Broecker said this is the third stripped car found in the county in recent months.
KU enrollment figures show spring totals around 9,200 versus 8,674 last year, with fall enrollment at 10,036 including medical students. The article notes graduation and new student rates, dropout reasons, and Kansas Union enrollment hours and schedule.

Four masked men entered contractor Matt J. Bowen s residence near 70th and Ward Parkway on the south side and robbed him of more than 5 000 in jewelry furs and cash. Lawrence Sertoma Club plans Freedom Week events at Central and West Junior High schools on February 22 with Mayor John Weatherwax giving brief addresses. Sertomans will present each eighth grader a copy of the Declaration of Independence and more than 550 copies will be distributed.
A Kansas House bill would provide districts with 25 per pupil from the state emergency finance fund, adding five million dollars in aid beyond the current 15 per pupil. Other measures include mental health center aid for counties and annexation tax roll changes. Senate actions include immunization certificates and barbering limits.

A coroner's jury found negligence by both drivers in the January 25 collision that killed Betty L. Kramer, 37, of 1016 N. Y. St. The other driver was Arley E. Smith, 22, of 1229 Almira St. Kramer died from a broken neck after the two cars collided at the Kentucky Street and 20th Street intersection. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
