Wheat Providing Pasture In Kansas Wheat Stands Grow
Nearly 60 percent of the 1972 seeded wheat acreage in western two thirds of Kansas had enough growth to provide pasture by mid December, the highest for the date since 1965. About 20 percent of seeded wheat was actually pastured with regional variation from 29 percent in the south central to 6 percent in the north central. Wet fields limited grazing while some sloping and sandy areas have been pastured continuously. Forage on wheat pasture was fair to good.
