Rankin named acting Kansas transportation secretary amid search
Gov Sam Brownback appointed Barb Rankin acting secretary of the Kansas Department of Transportation as the search for a permanent head continues. Rankin serves as agency general counsel, succeeding Deb Miller who resigned after leading KDOT since 2003. Miller was the first woman to head KDOT and the sole cabinet holdover from prior Democratic administrations. Also, District Judge Evelyn Wilson sentenced 19 year old Brandon Stodden for aggravated battery and related counts after pleading guilty to driving drunk and leaving the scene of an accident. He admitted drinking liquor and smoking marijuana before striking 57 year old Kim Curtis on May 11 2010. Curtis is now in an Oklahoma nursing facility.
