She died December 15, 2011 at home. Born January 9, 1935 in Hamtramck Detroit, she held BS in Spectroscopy from Sienna Heights College and MS in Spectroscopy from Mount Holyoke College and an MBA in Finance from IIT Chicago. She worked as Laboratory Manager for Bone Metabolism and Battle Injuries Research at the US Naval Research Center. She married John J Hefferren on February 6, 1965 in Washington DC. The state will stop the 13 week federally funded extended unemployment program on January 7 due to improved job figures. Regular state benefits plus 47 weeks of federal aid remain available, with 1 565 Kansas households affected. Authorities urge reliance on other assistance as Congress may extend the programs retroactively.
A Lawrence hotel and apartment project at Ninth and New Hampshire remains under review at City Hall. The Historic Resources Commission sent the plan to the Architectural Review Committee to study reducing height to roughly the size of the adjacent Lawrence Arts Center, opposed to the proposed six stories along New Hampshire Street. The developers led by Mike Treanor and Doug Compton have already trimmed height after neighborhood concerns, and further action awaits ARC analysis and HRC decision.
Old Navy will shut its Pine Ridge Plaza location on South Iowa Street in Lawrence after the holiday season. Spokeswoman Sarah Andrus cited store fleet evaluation and efforts to relocate employees, while noting no closure date yet and ongoing customer options at nearby stores or online.
