Snowy week boosts winter wheat cover and delays harvest
A federal state agriculture report notes heavy snowfall across the state provides excellent cover for winter wheat and improves soil moisture. Snow totals ranged 4 to 10 inches with southeast receiving freezing rain. extreme southwest had under two inches. Harvest of corn and grain sorghum is further delayed as more fields remain to be husked and threshed. Cattle move from wheat pastures to feedlots, prompting earlier market movement, though most areas have sufficient feed to last through winter.
