Chicago December 19 The government report shows an upward revision of the 1940 winter wheat crop by 34 million bushels the largest surprise to traders. With 816 698 000 bushels produced and a carryover of 284 000 000 the total supply next July 1 is about 1 100 000 000 bushels Domestic use and exports up to expectations would leave a carryover near 400 000 000. Carryover has risen since a low in 1937 and the prior peak was 377 942 000 in 1933.

Transfers announced for 1st battalion 16th field artillery
The War Department says the 1st battalion 16th field artillery will move permanently from Fort Myer Virginia to Fort Riley Kansas after January 25. Battery C 55th field artillery battalion will be organized as a replacement using men from the departing unit with about one third having more than a year of service. The Fort Riley unit has been at Fort Myer since July 1919, coming from Luxembourg after World War I, and has been redesignated multiple times before its current 1922 designation.

Food stamp plan to be discussed at Lawrence merchants meeting
Ray C Crowell of the surplus marketing administration and Winfield R Orrell of the Kansas State Grocers association will speak at the Lawrence Elks club meeting at 7 30 pm about a food stamp plan for welfare clients.
