Phone Rate Boosts in Kansas Cities

The request for telephone rate increases in Lawrence and several Kansas cities could bring about 212000 dollars annually in added revenue. The company seeks permission to raise about 114900 dollars in Garden City, Hays, Hugoton, Hutchinson, LaCrosse, Lawrence, Leavenworth, Lecompton, Lincoln, Oakley, Salina, Smith Center and Stockton. A 1 cent coin telephones charge is proposed statewide to curb talk time. The utility cites five million dollars in higher labor costs since 1952 and says the changes would yield about one tenth of one percent on Kansas investment, with a 4.62 percent return last fiscal year.
