Lawrence approves alcohol tax fund spending plan
Lawrence city commissioners approved next year’s alcohol tax allocations totaling 337,225 to 13 organizations and a 132,016 set aside for school resource officers in Lawrence schools. Pelathe Community Resource Center was denied funding after director Dave Cade questioned measurable impact. The fund, sourced from a 10 percent liquor tax, will divide about 11 million into recreation, general, and alcohol programs with a large police allocation questioned by Commissioner Mike Rundle.

Arts center seeks more funds for city garage project
The city plans to charge a development fee of 723000 and lease 7605 square feet of retail space at 114072 annually for a northwest 10th and New Hampshire building. Infrastructure costs rose to 830533 as traffic upgrades required by the city prompted a public hearing on tax increment financing to cover part of the garage. The hearing is set for Sept 5, with work to begin afterward.

Sign study eyed for Sixth Street to honor Pinckney areas
