President Nixon, touring for economic policy, urged support for parochial education at the Knights of Columbus convention. He pledged to stop school closures and praised resisting defeatism while planning trips to Illinois and Texas as part of campaign activity.
Washington AP reports the Office of Emergency Preparedness will release comprehensive guidelines by Thursday or Friday for Nixon's wage price freeze. The Cost of Living Council leads rulemaking with Arnold Weber as executive director, while OEP offers only obvious answers pending formal directives.
Constant Construction confirms two contracts worth 362000 are being forwarded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for Haskell Indian Junior College. Masonry workshop and warehouse to start about two weeks after the notices arrive, with completion planned for late fall. Structures will support classes displaced by Sacajawea Hall fire and will revert to original use after a new environmental health and home economics building is finished.

Chairman Russell Long indicated the plan might proceed with a July 1 1973 start if accepted, while hearings continue into September alongside tax package handling.
Ronnie A. Edwards 17 of Hesperia California and John Kinkade 17 of DeSoto died after a motorcycle collision on U S 73 near Lansing. Edwards died at the scene and Kinkade later at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Both were without helmets and were riding Edwards’s friend Elaine Badich’s car when the cycle struck her vehicle.
Mrs. Debby Mendoza and her 13 month old daughter were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a two car crash at 10th and New York. Both suffered no serious injuries. Ruben Mendoza identified as husband. Archie Mills of Rt. 2 drove the other car and was uninjured. No damage estimates given.
A Kansas traffic summary shows 1 death in the 24 hours ending 9 am Wednesday, 45 for August, and 424 for 1971. It notes two fatalities not previously reported in the total.

A second preliminary hearing for James V Spotts III 18 of Topeka on illegal sale of heroin began and recessed with bond set at $10 000.
Patrolman Gerald L. Thomason of Lawrence resigns after serving as a lawman since August 1, 1969. Police Captain Merle McClure announced the resignation today and stated the effective date of resignation.
San Francisco and a group of Chinese parents petitions to Justice Douglas seeking delay of a federal desegregation order. They argue the plan addresses de facto segregation by race in city schools amid ongoing busing disputes. Corpus Christi Texas officials also urge delaying busing for 15,000 students costing 1.7 million dollars to integrate Mexican-Americans.
Two Columbia women were injured in a two vehicle collision at Baldwin Junction on U.S. 56 59 near Lawrence. Ruth M. McQuitty 70 and Ruby McKenzie 86 were admitted to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for observation. Patrick C. Cendroski 31 escaped minor injuries. James McQuitty 72 was treated and released. The crash occurred when McQuitty allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and Cendroski swerved into a utility pole causing temporary electrical outage.
The Kansas University Information Center is now open from 9 a m to 9 p m to handle enrollment and orientation inquiries. It was closed July 31 for file updates and was set to remain closed three weeks, but Director Shirley Gilhams announced it reopened to assist returning students.
