The July 3 death of Mary Jane Underwood a 23 year old from Topeka was ruled a death by own action by Douglas County coroner Dr James Reed. She died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen after being taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The wound occurred at the home of Bruce Lynn about two miles east of Lecompton according to sheriff department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation reports.
