City studies center upgrades and dancing move in East Lawrence
The City Commission approved staff to cost a study room and two peace real goals plus a pool table for the East Lawrence Community Center and allowed Friday night dances there. Action on adding a city employee to oversee the center was deferred. Also ordered bids for a water tank base after overrun bids and awarded sewer and demolition contracts. The budget for Lawrence Memorial Hospital was received showing a 20 percent overall rise, aided by a new wing. A sidewalk on the north side of 15th Street was approved, and the Lawrence Community Arts Council advised of upcoming funding needs and an arts forum. A zoning ordinance and parking changes were also approved.
