Soviet Double Flight Extends Space Trek Ahead of Moon

Two Soviet astronauts aboard Vostok III and IV circled Earth for days in a historic tandem mission. Maj. Andrian Nikolayev logged 35 orbits by noon Moscow time and Lt. Col. Pavel Popovich 19, surpassing previous records as officials and Khrushchev sent congratulations.

Kennedy Economy Speech Broadcasts Shared Across Networks

President Kennedy's 30 minute speech on the economy will air live on ABC NBC CBS and Mutual radio networks starting at 5 p m CST. It will also be shown live on ABC NBC and CBS TV in the Eastern and Central zones and rebroadcast by tape at 7 p m local time in Mountain and Pacific zones.

4 H and FFA Fair Opens Wednesday in Douglas County

The Douglas County 4 H and FFA fair begins Wednesday at the 4 H Fairgrounds on East 19th Street, with over 3 000 exhibits from about 700 eligible youths. More than 400 cattle 40 hogs 40 sheep and 40 horses join hundreds of food sewing crafts and home economics displays. Entries must be on exhibit by noon with judging to follow at 12 30 and 1 00 for crops booths photos and home beautification. Judges review fitting and showing contests at 3 00 and the livestock parade and finals start at 8 00 p m.

Tear Gas Fight Near Berlin Wall On Anniversary

West Berlin crowds attacked Soviet vehicles and hurled stones as tear gas battles erupted opposite the former Nazi air ministry on the wall s first anniversary. East German guards fired tear gas while Western police deployed, with about 100 pushed back and streets cleared.

Baldwin Library Moves to New Home Adjacent to City Hall

The Baldwin Library, housing over 3 000 books and current periodicals, will move from shared space with city offices into its own quarters near City Hall. An open house is planned for September to show the new facility which separates library operations from city offices.

Fee Plan Expands Mental Health Fees and Services

A temporary revised fee schedule at the Lawrence Douglas County Mental Health Center expands services and alters charges. The plan removes income restrictions, lowers minimum fees for children and adults, and raises the maximum fee to twenty dollars. Officials will evaluate its effectiveness through year-end before any renewal.

Electrical Mishap Kills Lawrencian Here on Saturday

Theron D. Pursley 53 of 1301 W 21st St died after an electrical shock in a warehouse. He apparently tried to plug a 110 volt extension into a 220 outlet while standing on a damp floor. Fellow workers Roger Taul and Rock Holt were treated after grabbing the live wire. Pursley had worked for Consumers Cooperative Assn since 1954. Funeral plans set with Rumsey Funeral Home. Survivors include wife Mamie and son Raymond. Also mentions stock market index.
