Kennedy taps Bohlen as Ambassador to France

Relief Looms as Heat Wave Eases in Lawrence

Olathe Youth Dies in Creek Crash

Richard D. Hines, 19, of Olathe was killed when his car crashed into a bridge and plunged into a creek three miles south of the city on U S 169. His body was found in the wreck by a newspaper carrier who noticed damage to the bridge rail. His parents, Mr and Mrs Claude G Hines Sr, were vacationing in Middletown Ohio.

KU Students Tour Austria Amid Foggy Mountain Weather

The KU group faced fog and rain but enjoyed a memorable trip to Berchtesgaden salt mine. Festival Concerts by the Munich Philharmonic preceded a Mayor hosted breakfast in Holzkirchen. The summer finale featured a Vienna tour with Salzburg overnight and visits to Wolfgangsee, Melk Abbey, Wachau, and Vienna landmarks.

Rumsey Funeral Home denies sale to out-of-town firm

Lawrence Rumsey Funeral Home owners Fred and Oscar Rumsey publicly deny rumors of being bought by a larger regional funeral organization. President Hoover and Truman Dedicate Iowa Library

In West Branch Iowa an audience gathered for the dedication of the Hoover Presidential Library by former presidents Herbert Hoover age 88 and Harry S Truman age 78. Two Car Crash East of Lawrence Causes $750 Damage

Friday evening about 6 20 near Highway K 10 three miles east of Lawrence a two car collision caused $750 in damage but no injuries were reported. Drivers were Richard Lavery 1015 W 19th St and Mrs Albert Pendleton Route 2. Trooper Dick Krasnicka said Pendleton Turning Left was struck as Lavery trying to pass another vehicle.
