City stormwater tunnel runs beneath homes in Lawrence
A 107 year old stormwater tunnel cuts through about 14 private properties in the Oread and Old West Lawrence neighborhoods. City maps show the tunnel runs under or near seven structures, following a ravine route rather than city rights of way. Built in 1911, the tunnel serves as the primary storm sewer northeast from Jayhawk Boulevard to the Kansas River.
