Secretary of State Kris Kobach recuses himself from duties pending the outcome of his Republican primary challenge to Gov. Jeff Colyer. Colyer says Kobach has a conflict of interest while Kobach disputes that his guidance to local election officials on ballots violates state law.
Sharron Dingledine was due in Missouri court to seek custody of her 11 year old boy but was jailed in Douglas County on murder charges. The 11 year old remained hospitalized in the Kansas City area as police investigated the case. Dingledine’s 5 year old daughter also faced questions as investigators pursued details.
Lawrence resident Willie K Franklin was sentenced to 68 months in prison plus two years post release after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter and felon in possession in the Dec 27 2017 shooting at August Place Apartments Lei Ala Turner 30 who died. Franklin 28 faced the jury in June and the judge cited his amazing lack of judgment during the incident when he unloaded and pointed a gun at relatives.
