Democrats moderates likely to keep control of state education board
A coalition of Democrats and moderate Republicans appears set to retain control of the Kansas State Board of Education after Tuesday primaries. Moderates hold a 7-3 edge, with two moderate Republican seats contested and both won, ensuring the board likely maintains 6-4 or 7-3 balance. The result could smooth hiring of a new education commissioner to replace Diane DeBacker and advance the Common Core standards in reading, math, and science.
