Pittsburg weighs grant for South Rouse Street trail plan
Pittsburg officials decide next week whether to Accept a state grant of 656000 to build a trail on South Rouse Street, funded partly by private donations. Some homeowners oppose the plan, calling it frivolous, while a local resident notes a nearby trail already exists. A transportation official says declined grants are rare, with 50 million requests and 11 million available. The project would make walking and biking safer along the road bordered by drainage ditches.

Salt museum eyes new draws as attendance lags
Strataca in Hutchinson averages about 55,000 visitors yearly since 2007 while seasonality drives crowds to 6,000–9,500 in summer. The underground salt mine, debt free since 2011, hosts Murder in the Mine dinners and a topside shop. Abandoned-mine tours drew narrower interest, prompting June July trial offerings and planned shuttle tours with no start date.
