Opportunity fades as Neuenswander loses state board primary

Neuenswander, a former Lawrence schools chief, falls in Tuesday's Republican primary for the state board of education 3rd District. The 5-5 partisan split persists, with Democrat John P. Davidson advancing to the general against Republican John Bacon of Olathe, a contest seen as key to breaking the deadlock.

Clinton as Seinfeld and TV icons spark 1998 politics

River respect to the editor and Kaw fishing politics

A reader disputes Ned Kehde's Aug 2 Outdoors column claiming the Kansas River is perilous and notes fishing costs and fatalities occurred on reservoirs rather than the Kaw. The writer argues for more river boating and public access to promote safer, respectful, informed use of moving waters. He urges Kehde to highlight safety guidance and boaters who can educate on hull design hazards and navigation.

Wyandotte Tribune Faulted by Lawrence Journal

On August 8 1898 the Lawrence Journal criticized Wyandotte Kansas City calling it a disgrace to the state accusing it of dishonesty corruption and cowardice while labeling Wyandotte the cesspool of Kansas and the combined Sodom and Gomorrah of the state before ending with a caveat that it will be saved and Kansas people should not be forced to hold their noses when passing Wyandotte Courtesy Watkins Community Museum
