Tragic Chicago hotel death tied to Nazi persecution
Coroner's jury linked the suicide pact and murder of Adelia Langer and her two sons to Nazi pressure on Czechoslovakia. The 43 year old refugee, her sons Karl Tommy six and Jan Michael four, leapt from the Congress Hotel on Michigan Avenue after fleeing with her husband Karel Langer to the United States. The father, a former Prague textile magnate, testified of persecution and selling his plant under pressure, leaving the family despondent and seeking a better life for the children. The circumstances will be probed further by authorities.
