Clintwood Virginia August 3 a shepherd dog named Bossheroically drove off a charging animal that attacked a mother with her baby in her arms. The mother tucked the infant in a rain barrel and shielded the three year old with a club. She suffered blows to arms and legs and was taken to a local hospital for first aid.

Priest Shot in Amusement Park Accident
In Kansas City on August 3, Father George W. King was critically injured when a pistol fired as priest colleague Father John J. Murphy set down a 22 caliber gun during a shoot at Fairy Land. Murphy, superintendent of parochial schools, rushed King to a hospital. Police ruled it an accident. both men are priests with ties to the Cathedral and the late Bishop Lillis.
