Nashville police captain John Sorace testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that a seven thousand seven hundred dollar Office of Economic Opportunity grant funds a Nashville SNCC summer school. He said the program teaches Negro history and pride while also allegedly propagating hatred of whites. Sorace named Fred Brooks as SNCC Nashville chair and director of the North Nashville Student Summer Project. He linked the "liberation school" to ongoing city racial tensions.

Foreign Aid Bill Approved by House Foreign Affairs Panel
The House Foreign Affairs Committee backed a two year foreign aid authorization by a 277 vote. The measure includes 3.1589 billion dollars for the global military and economic assistance program for the year starting July 1, with a net cut of about 219 million from Johnson's request, and authorizes nearly 3.5 billion for fiscal 1969 beginning July 1, 1968.

Market slumps at tax talk
The stock market fell in heavy trading after President Johnson proposed a 10 percent surcharge on corporate and individual income taxes. Windows Suffer Breakage by Three Young Boys

Freddy Patterson six year old son of Mr and Mrs Fred Patterson of 226 Perry recovered at home after a sudden illness Tuesday night. He became ill in bed and had trouble breathing prompting a police escort for his father to the hospital. The Fire Department team treated him briefly with a resuscitator but it was not needed. His father said teething and a 24 hour virus were possible causes.

C. D. Stough Sr Dies at Age 86
Charles Daniel Stough Sr aged 86 longtime Kansas resident and oil development pioneer in southeast Kansas Oklahoma died after a two year illness. He was born January 6 1881 in Pioneer Ohio and moved to Kansas in 1896 working in midwestern oil fields later directing drilling for a Standard Oil subsidiary in Peru and Ecuador. He returned to Lawrence in 1934 and retired from active business after a Kansas Conservation post. Memorial gifts to KU Endowment Association for scholarships in the KU School of Law. He is survived by son Charles D. Stough Jr daughter Mrs. Lee Frink five grandchildren and one great grandson.
