Comet Finsler’s glow seen nationwide by stargazers
Across the United States telescopes track a bright streak near the pole star as Finsler's Comet, found a month ago by Dr P Finsler of Zurich, nears its third night of visibility. Prof. George A Van Biesbroeck notes amateurs can glimpse the tail and motion with naked eye and simple glasses. The peak brightness arrives August 12 at about 90 million miles from Earth, just below the Big Dipper handle, with visibility fading after August 21 as it moves beyond Arcturus. A rare celestial show may not recur for many years. Kansas notes a county with farms averaging over 1,000 acres.
