Air activity rises in Viet Nam amid heavy raids
U S and South Vietnamese aircraft conducted five raids on North Vietnam with all planes returning safely amid heavy ground fire. South Viet Nam saw unusually high air activity with 68 sorties mainly in central Viet Nam. The Viet Cong presence in central provinces prompted raids, and North Vietnamese regular units were confirmed in South Viet Nam. One U S fatality occurred when a spotting plane collided with a Vietnamese air force aircraft near Saigon. In North Viet Nam, 45 US Air Force jets attacked roads and bridges along Routes 7 8 and 12 damaging the Bai Duc Thon bridge. Navy jets from Hancock sank a camouflaged patrol boat off the coast.

Damage estimates ranged around 900 from an early Sunday crash on Learnard that injured no one. Howard D. Grammer, 20, of Route 4, left the roadway and hit a culvert in the 1900 block. Eleta Mae Simmons, 48, of 706 Ill. St., struck a pole at 7th and Til Sts causing 250 in damage. A two car collision at 9th and Iowa Sts involving David P. Gooch and Rodney C.
