Aqua-Tones Win Regional Quartet Contest in Springfield

The Aqua-Tones of the Lawrence chapter won first in a regional Sweet Adelines quartet contest in Springfield Missouri defeating 12 quartets from five states. Members are Mrs Norris Nahman Mrs Benji Wyatt Mrs Duane-Enos and Mrs Kenneth Blair. They plan to compete at the international meet in October at Colorado Springs and have performed for service clubs and hospitals since October 1959.

FFA Teams From LHS Dominate East Central Kansas Judging

Lawrence High School Future Farmers of America livestock judging team won top honors at the East Central Kansas District contest near Council Grove with 19 schools and 95 students competing. Budd y Lawrence took first, Tom Kay third, Loren Anderson eighth, while Kay led in oral justification with Lawrence third and Denny Longstaff sixth. Gerald Ice also competed. The seniors judged beef cattle sheep and swine weighing, dressing, and grading as trophies and certificates were awarded. Sponsor Roy Cropp praised the effort.
