Water District No. 1 selects seven member board

A permanent seven man board was elected and by laws approved at a Kanwaka Hall meeting. Board members: Jarvis Brink Irvin Stoneback Owen Mitchell Roger Caruthers Don Breithaupt Dr Richard Nelson and K L Knox. Nelson and Knox were new to the board. The group serves without pay. A consulting engineer said the preliminary study should finish in about two weeks. The plant will serve about 260 customers with 18 miles of pipe along the Kaw River northwest of the city. About 130 people have signed up. cost per person roughly 200 dollars with 90 percent borrowed from the federal government.

Spring Weather Stays Gentle With Cool Daily Highs

Senate approves Holmes for Iran ambassador post

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved Julius C. Holmes as ambassador to Iran by a 12 to 4 vote. Senator Williams has criticized Holmes over a 14 year old oil tanker investment, noting profits of 280000 on 10000 and 45000 on 300, and intends to press the issue on the Senate floor.

Carl Hird Jr of Hird Homes announces a development with more than 350 home sites and a 5 to 7 acre recreation area valued over $4 million. The project spans west of Lawrence Avenue with Holiday Hills No 2 and a western expansion, including 48 acres and 45 acres, and features a pool tennis courts baseball diamond and picnic areas.
