Rebels in Cuba Told To Continue Fighting Until Others Arrive

The Swan Island broadcast urged Cuban rebels not to surrender as new invasions were reported. Prisoners shown on Havana TV spoke of misleading propaganda and said few of their forces escaped. Jose Miro Torres admitted defeat and said militiamen fought hard. A diplomatic source claimed Ernesto Guevara was wounded.

Khrushchev Brands Cuban Invasion a Crime to Kennedy

Soviet Premier Khrushchev told President Kennedy that the Cuban invasion is a crime that has shocked the world. He accused the United States of planning arming and transporting the mercenary bands involved and warned of broader dangers to the Western hemisphere. Khrushchev also criticized U.S. actions toward Formosa and warned of potential similar responses by others.

Twister skirts Kansas City in early morning storm

A tornado skirted the south city limits of Kansas City injuring no one but unroofing one home and damaging two others in Grandview area. A car outside was crushed as winds roared and trees and power poles were toppled. Later a second, smaller tornado damaged two Jefferson City houses about 150 miles east.

Clinton Reservoir in Kansas River basin hearing planned
