Former South Middle teacher misses first court appearance
Chris Cobb, 57, a former South Middle School social studies teacher, failed to appear at his Municipal Court arraignment in Lawrence after an incident on March 29. Police arrested him on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing, interference with duties of a police officer, and disorderly conduct following an unannounced visit to the school.

North Lawrence chase ends in arrest after vehicle crash
A police chase in North Lawrence ended with a crash into a creek after a traffic stop. Officers found an AR-15 with 12 loaded magazines and several hundred rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s car. Courtney E. Austin, 35, of Kansas City, MO, was jailed on warrants and felonious firearm possession, with new charges of fleeing, interference, and driving without license or insurance. KU appoints liberal arts dean as interim provost
University of Kansas selects Carl Lejuez, currently dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, as interim provost and executive vice chancellor. Man Arrested After Car Bashing Spree on Louisiana Street
Lawrence police arrested a man suspected of smashing windows of at least ten vehicles overnight. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Louisiana Street around 9:10 p.m. Monday and found eight vehicles with damaged windows. The suspect was later found in the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road near 5 a.m. Tuesday and taken into custody for criminal damage. The case was referred to the DA for charges.
