Three Hurt in Wreck Near Baldwin Head-On Collision
Four injured Thursday night when a car and a truck collided on U S Highway 56 three miles west of Baldwin. Gary Ebeck and his wife Patricia of Baldwin were in good condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Their 17 month old daughter Kimberly was released Saturday. Faye Kalb of Route 1 Wellsville was listed in fair condition at a Olathe hospital with chest fractures and spine injuries. Lester A Kalb, 62, drove the truck.

Eleven Schools Compete in Douglas County Spelling Contest
Eleven county schools participated in the Douglas County Spelling Contest in Eudora for grades two through eight. A total of 104 representatives took part with ribbons awarded for first through third in each division and a bronze pin for first place. Three area high school students earned Class I superior ratings at the Class A and BB district High School Music Festival at Kansas University. Top scorers were Kathy Putt Hoff of Tonganoxie in girls medium voice Kenneth Bowie of McLouth in boys low voice and Phil Garton of Osawatomie in brass solo. Baldwin Youth Sentenced for Gasoline Theft near Vinland
Jimmie D. Johnson aged 19 from Baldwin was sentenced to 60 days in Douglas County jail for petty larceny after he and a 16 year old boy were caught Sunday night taking gasoline from a vacant farm southeast of Vinland. The other youth was turned to juvenile authorities. The deputy arrested them about 8 30 p m and the case may solve several similar Vinland area thefts dating back to mid February.

Sigma Nu Fraternity Renovation Begins at 945 Emery Rd
Preliminary work on a 325000 renovation adds 6500 square feet to the Sigma Nu house. Continental Construction of Lawrence won the contract for interior overhaul including a dormitory recreation area study hall air conditioning heating and new kitchen.
