The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee recommended a House conflict of interest bill. It would require governors, the lieutenant governor, and legislators to file private-interest disclosures with the secretary of state and ban local officials in towns over 25 000 from contracting with organizations they have a stake in. The vote was unanimous.

Kerr to Return to Cal as Professor in Fall

Simons Named Chamber President With Record New Members
Simons was elected chamber president succeeding Owens who led during a transition period. Winter resumes as secretary-manager after taking post last September. Senate Approves Plan to Boost Interest on Inactive Funds
The Kansas Senate neared final passage on a bill to raise state revenue from interest on inactive funds by about 3.5 million dollars annually. The conference report backed by the House would tie rates to 70 percent of the 90 day US Treasury average, boosting total receipts to roughly 5.3 million while easing a ban on local governments earning interest on inactive deposits.

Picket Lines Delay Local Construction Work in Lawrence
John Rider reports Laborers Local 1290 members are honoring Bricklayers Local 3 picket lines. Work at Kansas University sites and in the local schools is delayed as bricklayers walk out after contract expiration with Associated General Contractors. New terms are under negotiation.
