Funeral services for Mrs Maude Pearl Fleming 80 of Topeka former Lawrence resident set for Tuesday at Rumsey Funeral Home with Wilburn C Hill in charge. Burial will be Hardy Oak Cemetery north of Lawrence. Survivors include husband Roy daughter Agnes Winger son Fred Ottinger step daughter Mrs Jake Brungardt sisters Josie Washburn Estella Albright brother Dennis Deshazer nine grandchildren eighteen great grandchildren. Also noted are references to school and Wisconsin University graduate status and Bell Telephone career.
Lawrence relatives informed of the death of Charles V. Fowler of Berkeley California. He died Thursday and funeral services were held today in Berkeley. Fowler was a Kansas University Engineering graduate.

Kathy Marie Ann Bear an 11 year old sixth grader at McLouth Grade School won the 1967 Jefferson County Spelling Championship and will represent the county in the All Kansas Spelling Bee on May 6 in Topeka. She is a straight A student active in church activities sports and 4 H. Her sister Patty previously represented Jefferson County in 1964.
Kansas legislators will return on Monday without pay to resolve key 1967 session issues including income tax cuts highway program school financing medical care for the poor and elderly and higher interest on inactive state funds. The session ends Sunday.

Lawrence Paper Co employee Jesse Athey aged 34 from 1846 Ohio Street remained in satisfactory condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a 19 foot fall from a ladder on a paper dryer at the firm’s 6th and N Streets location. Officials said climbing the ladder was a normal part of his job as a rollman and he suffered a possible concussion and abrasions.
D Connecticut governor Romney criticized past Johnson decisions and a bypassed Congress. He warned against massive escalation and outlined a peace with amnesty plan for defeated Communists in South Vietnam. Romney said Hanoi leaders would not dictate terms, and Bailey and Christian praised his stance while noting no direct questions were taken.
