Nicholas Longworth, longtime speaker of the U S House, died in Aiken South Carolina after a pneumonia battle that began Monday. He had been resting since March 30 after duties in Washington and was attended by his wife Alice Roosevelt Longworth and daughter Paulina. Funeral plans were arranged by Sergeant at Arms and railroad officials were notified for transport to Cincinnati.

Harold Cryder, 23, of Paso Robles California, is jailed on forgery charges after trying to cash a 15 dollar check at Barber drug store. Drug clerk Harold Gill refused the cash, Cryder fled, deputy Fred Vogler arrested him on East Ninth Street. Cryder told County Attorney Frazee he wrote and tried to cash the check but tore it up since then. He said he came from Minneapolis where he worked for the Associated News Service.
