March building permits near record totals in City

A Farewell to Connie Marks End of the Line For Well-Known Plane
In Kansas City at Trans World Airlines a farewell marked the retirement of the Connie four engine passenger aircraft. The final Connie arrived from St Louis for the ceremony ending its passenger service on the line. Uniformed captains saluted as the plane made its final move. Tragedy in West Palm Beach Two Officers Slain
In West Palm Beach Florida a man killed two police officers Sgt William Feltcher and motorcycle patrolman David Van Curler as they answered a report at a Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan. John C Cooley 32 was charged with first degree murder. Army veteran Thomas Gorham 20 subdued Cooley after recovering Van Curler's gun. Witnesses reported bystanders cheered the attack.

Freak Wreck Injures Three on Highway 56 East of Baldwin
Three people were injured in a head on collision on U S Highway 56 three miles east of Baldwin. Faye Kalb 57 of Route 1 Wellsville received severe injuries including a broken back and crushed chest and was taken to an Olathe hospital. Gary A Ebeck 22 of Baldwin and his wife Patricia were admitted to Lawrence Memorial Hospital in fair condition with cuts and bruises. Ebeck's 17 month old daughter was not hurt. Kalb was eastbound and turned into the westbound lane to avoid another car. Ebeck said he saw traffic in both lanes and tried to pull onto the north shoulder when the crash occurred in a no passing zone with limited visibility.
