Convicts Escape Penitentiary By Rooftop Bid For Pay Roll
Douglas Qounts and Richard O Day alias Big Eye escaped the penitentiary December 1, 1890 after seizing bed hooks and a skylight rope on the top floor. They climbed to the roof then leapt to the wall and tumbled over. Found the next day clinging to driftwood on a Missouri river sand bar, they were picked up and returned to the prison.
