Jackson January 10 The Mississippi Bar Association proposes allowing three fourths of a civil jury panel to verdicts. Senator Evans pushes the rule for civil and criminal cases, with unanimous verdicts only in felonies or treason cases. The plan draws broad support and will be a key issue before judiciary committees this session.

Senator J. D. Donald of Hattiesburg proposes abolishing the district attorney's job and shifting duties to the county attorneys who would receive salaries to attract top talent. The incumbent would also serve as attorney for the board of supervisors, centralizing criminal prosecutions from magistrate to circuit court for potentially better local governance and efficiency. The plan aims for minimal new legislation and a swift adjournment after addressing key subjects.
