Water shortages predicted for Colorado River basin
Don Paff, administrator of the Division of Colorado River Resources, told the Colorado River Resources Advisory Commission that water yields will drop to record lows this year. Lower basin releases for Mexico and upper basin transfers will worsen Lake Mead levels, but hydroelectric output remains unchanged. Contracts for Southern Nevada Water Supply phase two with Henderson, Boulder City, North Las Vegas, Nellis AFB, and Las Vegas Valley Water District await federal review and court validation before signing. An environmental statement was filed June 9 and expected to be approved by July 9. Water rates will rise from 58 to 64 dollars per acre foot for the next budget year.
