Cairo reports Libya and Sudan agreeing to reinforce Arab forces at the Suez Canal front with additional troops and an armored battalion. Sudan will deploy another infantry battalion. Fire Ravages Atlantic City Steel Pier
A general alarm fire struck Atlantic City's Steel Pier damaging over a quarter of the amusement center. Fire Chief Warren Conover cited 45 mph winds and heat hindering efforts, with damage around 1 million dollars of the pier's 6 million value. The blaze, likely from an electrical short, caused one fireman to suffer a heart seizure and several minor injuries as most of the pier remained closed since the summer resort season.

Holiday Fires Kill 18 Across Nation on Christmas Weekend
United Press International reports at least 18 people died in Christmas season fires. In Perkeley Township New Jersey a mother, Mrs Alfreda Small, 31, and five of her nine children perished in an old condemned Army barracks during gale winds. The victims ranged from 11 months to 15 years. Officials suspect a space heater sparked the blaze. In Maplewood Missouri five residents died in a three story apartment fire.

Storms Sweep Northeast and Rockies Struck by Heavy Snow
A post Christmas storm dumped up to three feet of snow in New England causing clogged highways collapsed roofs and power outages with flood risks.
