Snow and Ice Storm Strikes Southern Plains to Northeast

A major snow and ice storm swept the southern Plains into the lower Midwest and upper South bringing six foot drifts on the high plains and widespread outages. Tornadoes and high winds raked the deep South while California homes faced wind damage. As much as 40 below in Colorado and up to two feet of snow were forecast for Texas and New Mexico with dozens of communities hit by outages and travel bans. Deaths and injuries were reported across seven states with heavy rains and northeast blizzards adding to the peril.
