Firefighters searched the charred mobile home Wednesday night finding two cats inside. One cat died in the blaze while paramedics revived the other. Residents were away at the time and no humans were injured.
Clark County firefighters battled a November fire at the Pueblo Del Sol Mobile Home Park on South Nellis Boulevard. Five engines and 20 firefighters contained the blaze in five minutes. the home suffered about 30000 dollars in damage. Only two cats were found inside one dead and one revived by paramedics. The home’s deaf residents were away, and the cause remains under investigation.
The deadliest 24 hours since Britain’s 35,000 firefighters walked out left five people dead, raising the toll to 37 as government mobilized 18,000 troops, sailors, and airmen for emergency squads. Prime Minister James Callaghan maintained his firm stance on a large pay rise. Previously a single day had seen four deaths.
Four ton elephant Colonel escaped from a circus truck and eludes rangers, cowboys, and trainers in a 400000 acre refuge. He was sighted from the air at noon before vanishing into heavy brush. A helicopter plan is set for Thursday as searches resume at sundown with no capture.

Walter S. Long age 62 will retire Thursday after 15 years as Nevada State Museum exhibits director. He joined the museum in 1962 and became exhibits director in 1975. No replacement named.

In Storey County Nevada the Nevada Supreme Court dismissed a water rights lawsuit between Curtiss-Wright Corp and Westcoast Oil and Gas Corp operator of the Gooseberry Mine. Both firms held state permits for irrigation and mining water and agreed to settle out of court.
